HB "MAYOR OF THE LAKE": The second annual "HB Mayor Of The Lake" USAWS class "F" tournament has been expanded to a two event series-the first event will take place on July 12-13 and the second event will take place September 20-21.  Saturdays will be for Wakeboard and other events, and Sundays will be for the Slalom event.  This event is open to all USAWS affiliated skiers.

KING/QUEEN OF THE LAKE TOURNAMENT:  The 2008 King/Queen of the Lake Tournament is a Club member-only event that will take place throughout the summer.  The Slalom Course will be in the lake Friday and Sunday mornings and other select times beginning on June 1st and utilized from approx an hour after sunrise (about 7 AM through mid-August) until 10 AM.  Club members are welcome to ski the course during these times.  A fee of $10 will be charged per skier payable to the boat driver to offset the cost of fuel.  The tournament consists of total points generated on the course throughout the season with the final tournament run and awards completed at the September "Mayor of the Lake" event.

Members must sign up for the tournament and declare their initial class based upon the CLWSC classes as used for the "Mayor" series.  Skiers will declare one "run" through the  slalom course during each session that is their "record" pass.  Driver and observer must acknowledge the record pass attempt and will act as judges for the run.  The skier will ski the course, continuing their runs, shortening line length and/or boat speed until they miss a turn-ball. One fall  or handle drop is allowed during the "record" pass-the second fall or handle drop will terminate the pass. Skier who successfully complete runs through the course will bump up their class based upon CLWSC "Mayor" rules.  At the completion fo their record pass the judges will determine the skiers score and relay the information via email to the tournament director, who will maintain a record of each pass.  At the September "Mayor" event all session points will be tallied and the winners will be awarded for each class.

THE KING OF THE LAKE TOURNAMENT IS A CLUB MEMBER ONLY EVENT!  To sign up email Sean at sean.butler@coventrywaterski.com

2007 "MAYOR OF THE LAKE" TOURNEY A SUCCESS!!

With the conditions on Saturday for the Wakeboard/Kneeboard contest near perfect, and the weather on Sunday for the Slalom event challenging the competitors with breezy conditions and light chop throughout the course, The Tournament turned out to be a success.  In the Mens Intermediate Wakeboard division, Rick Dionne out-boarded Joe Maclaclon to top the podium with 1,750 points.  Novice Kneeboarder Lauren Sheldon won her division with 271 points, and Jacob Messier placed first in the Junior Novice Kneeboard division with 259 points.  On Sunday the Slalom Skiers had the chance to rip up the course, and Dan Bugnacki from Holland Lake bumped up from the Men's Intermediate division to the Advanced Intermediate, rounding 1 buoy at 28' off at 34 MPH to take the top spot on the podium.  James Young from Columbia Lake took first place honors in the Men's Intermediate division with 5 buoys at 22' off at 34 MPH.  Mike Barrette from Coventry Lake took first  in the Second Class division with 5 1/2 buoys at 15' off at 32 MPH, and Eric Trudon from Coventry took the honors for the 3rd Class division with 7 1/2 buoys at 15' off at 30 MPH.  Womens Novice skier Lauren Sheldon placed first in her class with 11 buoys at 15' off at 26 MPH, and Ryan Butler took the first place in the Men's Novice division with 10 1/'2 buoys at 15' off at 26 MPH.  In the Junior Novice Class Jacob Messier topped the podium with 10 buoys at 15' off at 26 MPH.  To see the complete results from the tournament please click here.

Harvey Barrette, for who the tournament is named after, is commonly known as the "Mayor of the Lake" and has been active in supporting the water skiing community on Coventry Lake for the last 45 years.  Harvey was on hand to present the ribbons for the podium finshers on both days, and was extremely helpful in ensuring that the tournament became a reality.

Future plans call for two tournaments next year, in June-July and in September.  We learned a lot from this tournament and are looking forward to making next year's events even better!
